Critical Illness

HSTA members are eligible for many additional insurance programs like the program offered on this page. Take advantage today!

Based on the member’s age, and benefit amount, critical illness coverage can be purchased for active members.  When you apply for insurance for yourself, you may also apply for coverage for your legal spouse and unmarried children under 19 years of age.  Dependent children who are full-time students at an accredited school, college, or university will continue to be eligible for dependent coverage from 19 years of age through 22 years of age.

Members can only enroll during the annual open enrollment period.

For your convenience, premiums are paid via payroll deduction.

What is Critical Illness Insurance?
Critical Illness provides a lump sum payment upon the first diagnosis of a Covered Condition for all Covered Persons as defined in the Certificate.  A Recurrence Benefit is paid when a covered person is diagnosed with another occurrence of the same Covered Condition for which an Initial Benefit was previously paid.
